What makes me laugh

The other day while talking to the Boy, who is 9, I got all lovey and gushy with him, which he hates still likes but is starting to edge away from just a bit.

I gushed said, “Well, you are the handsomest guy in the world.” (I know, we’re not supposed to over-compliment. Tell me you’ve never done it.)

Clearly moved, he answered, “You know that’s just your opinion, right?”

Virtual Panoramas of Venice

When you try this, keep in mind that you can click on the panorama and move any direction, including straight up or down (click and drag). Also, use your roller to zoom in and out. Which is helpful when trying for a closer look at the anatomy of the statues  Italian men  architecture. (What?)

What will inspire me today

“My loving friend, you see, my life was never given a foundation, no one was able to imagine what it would want to become. In Venice there stands the so-called Ca del Duca, a princely foundation, on which later the most wretched tenement came to be built. With me it’s the opposite: the beautiful arched elevations of my spirit rest on the most tentative beginning; a wooden scaffolding, a few boards…Is that why I feel inhibited in raising the nave, the tower to which the weight of the great bells is to be hoisted (by angels, who else could do it)?”

–Rilke, writing to Magda von Hattingberg on February 8, 1914

At least he’s not vain. My 8-yr-old boy might well have said, “I know.” 🙂

just your opinion…funny kid. 😛

Venice is on my list of places to see while I’m living in Europe. Along with Rome, Volterra (another Italian city), and as much of Greece as I can take it.

I love that you love Rilke.

I’ve never been out of the U.S., save for a week’s visit in 94 to Bermuda. I would really love to visit Europe. For now, though, I’d just take anyplace where the first digit in the temperature reading is higher than a 1…

Venice and Rilke… mimosas and eggs hollandaise for the soul.

well, truthfully, it would be a good time to be in Venezia because of the weather. in summer, the heat produces an odd smell that only seems to ease up at night.

Florence is a much more lovely city, IMO. you still get the water, but none of the stinky. and in Florence i didn’t experience the 3 weirdos following me for 12 blocks. just sayin.

I’m with ms. chili. i love rilke too (as you know). he’s the best. honestly, at this point in my day I would just take a slice of pizza — close enough to Italy for me.

Okay, had you not endeared yourself to me already by how much I enjoy your blog, your liking R.M. Rilke would have clinched it. I simply adore him. Like Anno said, mimosas and eggs hollandaise for the soul. And like Lilya, I think you are marvelous too.
