Performance Anxiety (my 100th post in 100 words): PG-13

by Jennifer on May 9, 2008

Candle for MadeleineThis is my 100th time, and I’m nervous. It’s not as though I haven’t done this before, or that it doesn’t come naturally. (I have, and it does.)

It’s just that, well…it’s a special night, and I feel a lot of pressure to make it memorable. Exciting. Fun. Something I haven’t tried before. And as satisfying (and unsatisfying) as Crash’s “I believe” speech in Bull Durham. You know the one. (Don’t tell me you didn’t memorize it.)

Of course, at the end of that speech, Annie Savoy’s first response was just two words. Say it with me.

Oh, my.

Your blog has been an absolute source of inspiration, refection, and laugh out loud fun.

I congratulate you on your 100th post and can’t wait to read what you have to say in the 100 or 1000.

You are a true talent, a joy to read, and I know if we actually lived in the same neighborhood, we’d be friends.

Did you shave your legs? That’s what I do on such special nights…

Looking forward to the next 100.

Ree May 9, 2008 at 7:30 pm

Favorite movie speech EVER. I actually posted it on Opening Day this year. Sigh.

Congratulations – 100 posts is a milestone!

Carolyn May 9, 2008 at 7:33 pm

Damn you. Nobody said anything about math and I certainly don’t come here to count to 100, but you made me do it and gosh darn it, you actually did that in exactly 100 words. Nicely done.

Thanks for all the laughs, sighs and giggles. I’m looking forward to the next 100. Hope you’re putting up your feet and enjoying a nice glass of wine tonight. You deserve it! Cheers, eh.

You know, once you’ve done it, things will never be the same. I’ve heard it can be quite addicting too 😉

Congratulations on your 100th post! You are certainly one of my favorite reads and look forward to many more milestones!

Glad I found you in time for this milestone and look forward to many more. 🙂

You should totally try to get Willard Scott to do a Smuckers tribute to this post!

I never would have guessed it was only 100–you’re such a pro! Congrats and I can’t wait to read the next 100.

One of the bests movies ever-and scripts. I’ve never gotten over that scene where he paints her toenails. Sigh.

Abraham Lincoln May 10, 2008 at 2:35 am

I am truly flabbergasted and love it.

Brenda May 10, 2008 at 5:55 am

Who would have thought? So glad you did it, and I know you are, too.

Guess I need to watch the movie! (I don’t know WHY I never saw it, but I just haven’t. And I mentioned it to my husband who DID quote it.)

Madge May 10, 2008 at 6:59 am

So I guess this makes you a bloggie oldie. Looking good mighty good for all that. May I tell you what a great thing it was for me to have discovered you? It was my luck of the blogging draw. A heartfelt congratulatory hug for you. I’ll remain here for as long as you continue to write and hopefully beyond. M

Perfect.

And thanks for the reminder … I had forgotten how good Kevin can be.

HRH May 10, 2008 at 3:15 pm

I love that speech and yes, I had it memorized. It was on a poster above my bed at a certain dormitory at a certain centrally located college that was attended by a certain celebrity writer who just posted her 100th post. Congratulations.

Meg May 10, 2008 at 5:25 pm

OKAY. WHOA.

I just stopped by to see if you had a new post up and I was seriously confused as to my whereabouts by the suspiciously inappropriate ad in your sidebar. Seems Referral Ads by Google thinks your readership might be in the market for some chnlove.com. Anyone here interested in a 21 year old Asian beauty queen from Yunnan? Yes? Click the link!

Oh wait. No? Didn’t think so.

Weird Jennifer. Weird.

Happy Mother’s Day to you and all the lovely Asian ladies in your sidebar looking for a hot date.

OMG. You are a woman after my own heart. Bull Durham is one of my favorite movies of all time, and that speech? Classic.

Congrats on 100 posts! Great milestone!

Peace – D

Happy post 100, happy Mothers’ Day!

Just saw that movie again recently. It had been years and I still really, really love it. Happy 100 posts…and, being completely off radar recently, I really didn’t know what the hell you were talking about until checking your comments. You had me convinced that you were fairing amour with a new lover. All that nervous, excited energy. Sighhh.

Jennifer H May 11, 2008 at 9:11 am

Carolyn—Oh my god. I saw that ad yesterday, and I thought I took the necessary steps to get rid of any category of ads that might include that. AGH!!! I’m so mortified that it still came up and that anyone might have seen it. My deep apologies to everyone. I have to go kick some Google ass now. (Also, I took down AdSense until they can assure me ads like that won’t pop up again.)

Edited to say: I hope I fixed it. And Carolyn, you make me laugh. You didn’t embarrass me at all! It is funny, but because Google got it so, so wrong.

I’m so sorry Jennifer… I didn’t mean to embarrass you. I thought it was seriously funny. It doesn’t reflect on you whatsoever. It only proves how silly Google is.

No worries. I’ll miss those lovely ladies.
